Dr. J.D. Ferwerda was born and raised on Curaçao. After graduating from high school he left the island to study in the Netherlands where he completed his medical studies in December 1988. In august 1989 he started his residency in ophthalmology at the KUL Leuven in Belgium which he finished in the end of 1993. |
| He then moved back to Curaçao to start a practice in general ophthalmology. Even though his practice was very successful he wasn’t completely satisfied professionally and decided to specialize further into the field of retinal diseases and moved with his wife and 3 children back to the Netherlands to do a fellowship at the University Hospital of Utrecht and the Rotterdam eyeclinic which he finished in December 2000. After moving back to Curaçao he quickly started building his practice into one of the best (both medically and equipped) retinal practices in the Caribbean and is continually improving the level of care with the latest treatments and equipment upgrades. He attends all the major conferences every year, but also has visited (and will continue to do so in the future) most of the top retinal surgeons in the U.S.A. and in Europe to learn from their expertise hands on. << |
